Resort Developer Takes a Stand
Against Global Warming

Crystal Springs Builders Raises Industry Standard

Boulder, CO (March 2006) - Hardyston NJ's Crystal Springs Builders has teamed up with US-based Sustainable Travel International (STI) to become the first resort development company to address global warming by offsetting its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through MyClimate™, an innovative new program that neutralizes the impact of GHG emissions.

Crystal Springs, who offers luxury homes and award winning golf course resorts in the Northeast, has a strong commitment to developing its properties in a sustainable manner. "We've identified GHG emissions which stem from our business activity and realize that they contribute to global warming," notes company CEO Andrew Mulvihill, "and we want to be proactive in addressing the issue while further establishing ourselves as an industry leader." Crystal Springs has been recognized for environmental excellence in the past. It's Ballyowen Golf Club, for example, received designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS), the educational division of Audubon International.

Distributed in North America by STI, MyClimate™ is helping Crystal Springs to address the issue of global warming by ensuring that its operations are climate friendly. "This is by no means a first best solution," states Peter D. Krahenbuhl, STI Co-founder and Vice President, "Reducing consumption, becoming more energy efficient and switching to renewable energy are the best options. But offsetting through MyClimate™ is certainly a turn-key solution as it reduces emissions elsewhere that otherwise would have remained in the atmosphere."

MyClimate™ can be applied to energy consumption related emissions as well as air and land travel. And companies and people can neutralize their climate related impacts by purchasing a MyClimate™ "ticket." The money is then invested in climate-friendly renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that double as sustainable development projects in poor countries, which reduces an equivalent amount of emissions.

For example, travelers can neutralize the climate impact of a flight that emits one ton of GHG by purchasing a MyClimate™ "ticket" for $16. This may be invested in solar ovens in South Africa, reducing the need to import diesel fuel that would emit the equivalent amount of emissions as the flight in question. The further reductions of GHG are additional to any that would occur in the absence of MyClimate™ projects.

"Crystal Springs is setting an industry standard through MyClimate™" Krahenbuhl continues, "They are not only helping to neutralize their own global warming impacts, they are also raising awareness to homeowners and resort travelers across the nation."

Travel Industry Eco-certification Program Pilot Launched in North America

Boulder, CO (March 2006) - Sustainable Travel International (STI) announced today that it has officially pilot launched its Sustainable Tourism Eco-certification Program™ (STEP) in North America.

STEP is a voluntary certification initiative developed by STI in conjunction with stakeholders from around the world for the travel and tourism industry. It's designed to assist travel and tourism providers in identifying, measuring and managing their environmental, socio-cultural, and economic impacts. Though similar initiatives exist in other countries, STEP is currently the only unsubsidized, non-profit eco-certification program of its kind that will be available globally.

Before formally launching the program in the U.S. and Canada, STEP will be piloted in conjunction with leading accommodations, attractions, tour operators and transportation service providers in these regions. Participating companies will go through the eco-certification process and provide suggestions for refining and further streamlining the program. They'll also have an opportunity to be among the first to be Eco-certified in North America.

"We have been developing the program in a transparent manner, involving stakeholders from around the world, for the last three years," explains Brian T. Mullis, STI President. "Our primary focus is to offer a user-friendly system that doubles as an educational and marketing tool and compliments other existing sustainable tourism eco-certification programs while limiting the barriers to entry for travel and tourism-related companies of all sizes."

Participation in the STEP Pilot Launch is limited and is available on a first come first served basis. Companies based in the U.S. and Canada that are interested in participating are encouraged to contact STI. For more information on STEP, email STI, call 800-276-7764, or visit www.ecocertification.org.
