Not-for-Profit offers Free Brochure:
Travel Responsibly - Leave the World a Better Place

Boulder, Colorado - Sustainable Travel International (STI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable tourism by building awareness, appreciation and respect for local people and our environment, is offering a free brochure entitled Travel Responsibly - Leave the World a Better Place.

Despite the recent economic slump, recent research suggests that sustainability - the triple bottom line of economic profitability, respect for the environment and social responsibility - is good for business. In an effort to help travel companies understand how they can lessen their environmental impacts and related overhead expenses while broadening their market reach, STI has created a brochure that answers some basic questions:

  • "What is the size and scope of the responsible travel market?" (Between 55-68 million Americans can be classified as either sustainable tourists or conscientious consumers).
  • "Will sustainable tourists pay more to use travel companies that strive to protect and preserve the environment?" (Approximately 35.6 million Americans would pay 5-10% more).
  • "What tools are available to travel companies interested in integrating sustainable business practices into their operations?" (STI has developed a program that is designed to measure travel companies' environmental, economic, and social-cultural impacts, helping them to minimize their negative impacts and enhance their positive impacts).

STI's Travel Responsibly - Leave the World a Better Place brochure also provides information on responsible tourism for consumers. "Responsible tourism is about getting more out of your travel experiences by giving back to the environment and the people you meet," explains STI's President Brian T. Mullis. "We've developed six principles of responsible tourism for conscientious consumers who want to make responsible travel choices," Mullis concludes.
