A Message from STI President
I am very happy to report that we've launched our new website, which features an updated look-and-feel, improved navigation, and many multi-faceted and innovative features.
Explore a world of sustainable and responsible travel opportunities, from eco-lodges in Asia to community-based tourism in Africa, in our Eco-Directory. And use our enhanced MyClimate™ carbon offset program to neutralize the global warming impact of your air travel. We're also offering handcrafted products that can be purchased directly from local villagers and opportunities to support community development and conservation through a variety of travel philanthropy programs. Our new website also features information on sustainable tourism educational training courses, the Sustainable Tourism Eco-certification Program™, which is in its final stages of development, and much more!
We've seen a steady increase in traffic to our website since it was launched in 2002. And we've been averaging 20,000 unique visitors per month, but with the launch of our new web site, we hope to expand our reach and continue to build awareness, appreciation and respect for local people and our environment.
As always, we welcome you to provide us with suggestions for further improving the site or expanding our current range of offerings.
Warm regards,
Brian T. Mullis
President

Green Class Now Available: The Benefits of Offsetting Air Travel Emissions
Air travel is the fastest growing contributor of greenhouse gasses that affect global climate change. But you want to travel, you may even need to travel, and traveling by air is most convenient.
So what can you do? Two choices. You can do nothing and carbon emissions increase. Or you can fly Green Class with a MyClimate™ ticket where your travel related carbon emissions are neutralized!
Why Choose MyClimate™?
Ease of use. MyClimate™ offers technology to seamlessly integrate into any travel service provider's operations. For travelers, MyClimate™ tickets are available with a few clicks of a button.
Credibility. MyClimate™ buys certified carbon offset units that meet the strict requirements of the World Wildlife Fund's Gold Standard.
Feel Good. MyClimate™ gives people a better quality of life. For example, a handful of MyClimate™ tickets can finance solar water heaters in Africa, replacing the need to burn virgin forest and import oil.
How Much Does it Cost?
Depending on travel distance, as little as $8-$10 extra for a fully offset ticket, and even less for 'partial offsetting.' Often, travel agencies and travel related organizations cover much of this cost to the traveler. Here's how:
Travel agencies donate a percentage of the full MyClimate™ ticket to attract new clients and new business.
Corporate partners offset their emissions by reallocating marketing budget towards the MyClimate™ then publicize their environmental stewardship, increasing brand and customer loyalty.
Nonprofit organizations offset their employee and donor travel to be in line with their philanthropic missions, improve reputation, and employee satisfaction.
To learn more or to offset your flight, visit www.my-climate.com. Travel service providers click here to download and review a PowerPoint presentation that further explains the benefits of MyClimate™.

Crillon Tours Encourages
Science, Culture and Dreams
Thanks to current advances in technology and the work of many dedicated scientists, hidden pages of world history are opening, giving us new insights into the past. Though the evolution of technology is rapidly changing the way in which we live, it is imperative that we understand our past in order to prepare for our future.
ABORA II is the latest and perhaps the most important expedition to prove the past connections among continents and demonstrate aboriginal sailing technologies. The German scientist Dom inique Gorlitz, Fermin Limachi and their team took two years to build the ABORA II out of reeds. The construction took place at Crillon Tours' Harbor on Lake Titicaca, a co-sponsor of this magnificent adventure. At 7 tons, 12 meters long and 4.4 meters wide, ABORA II was constructed using the exact techniques and materials used 6,000 years ago by the region's ancient ancestors.
Once finished, the ABORA II was shipped to Alexandria, Egypt where it sailed across the Mediterranean Sea, covering a total distance of 2,150 kilometers within 61 days.
The research and hard work of Dominique Gorlitz and Fermin Limachi as well as the enthusiasm of Crillon Tours' staff each contributed to the success of the Abora II expedition.

Enjoy a Greek Island Holiday in
Ithaca, Greece at Levendis Estate
Perched on a hillside with spectacular sea views, the organic olive-oil-producing Levendi's Estate includes four guest houses, each featuring its own native-flora garden terrace, as well as a swimming pool and outdoor cooking area. Beyond the pool, paths meander into the forest where hammocks and benches provide peaceful seclusion. Guests can swim or snorkel in the coves below the forest and cycling is permitted on mountain paths.
In addition, the estate includes organic vegetable and herb gardens and a farm that houses six sheep and several chickens. Visitors can help themselves to the produce in the gardens and orchards and choose from foods prepared using homegrown ingredients. Several preserves and herbal products are made from organic produce for guests to enjoy or take home as gifts. The estate is a member of the national organization for organic producers and supports the idea that vacation destinations offering high-quality accommodations and services can be in harmony with the natural environment.
Another guiding principle of the estate is that tourism dollars always should benefit the local economy, so the estate is operated by local people. The owners also only recommend services conducted by local families, including taxis, cars and boats, as well as restaurants, supermarkets and cafes that source local foods.
After enjoying days on the sea, by the pool or exploring the island, the soothing rhythm of waves lapping the cliffs below will guarantee visitors drift into a deep and easy sleep during the long Mediterranean nights.
