Regional Travelers' Philanthropy Initiatives
Many hoteliers, tour operators, and individual travelers are interested in giving back to the places they visit but are unsure about how to do this most effectively and reliably. Travelers' philanthropy programs link travelers and the travel trade to local grassroots projects, providing them with opportunities to make small donations that have a positive impact on the destination's communities, economies, and environment. The travelers’ philanthropy programs Sustainable Travel International (STI) develops attract participation from the travel trade and other businesses who channel resources to targeted projects operated by local non-profits and other credible organizations, helping them to support destination stewardship region-wide.
STI has designed and implemented a number of successful travelers’ philanthropy projects within the travel industry and at a destination level over the course of the last eight years, proving the viability of the concept (e.g., the Dogon Travelers Donation Fund). We work in close collaboration with local stakeholders to develop and implement a system for sustained giving that addresses local needs, and increases the positive impact of tourism.
