Project Partner(s): United Airlines
Project Description: STI developed an enterprise-level custom carbon calculator and an associated monthly reporting mechanism for use by United Airlines, its employees, and its customers. STI based the design of the custom calculator and report format on its existing calculator database infrastructure and on the methodology, calculations, and mock-up designs provided by United Airlines. More specifically, the calculator methodology utilized by STI involved making limited modifications to STI’s pre-existing calculations while integrating route and aircraft type, United-specific fuel consumption, and product efficiency information as a first step toward a solution that more accurately reflects United Airlines’ operations and providing use for B2C and B2B offset programs. This resulted in a better-than-industry-standard in that it is based on route and aircraft-specific information and estimates the fuel used only to transport the paying passenger for that specific flight.
Description of Services: STI completed all of the enterprise-level application development for this project in house. Brian Mullis, as lead consultant also headed all program and business development, human resource management, financial management as well as education, marketing, and outreach.
