“Sustainable Travel International has been an invaluable partner to Travel Oregon on numerous fronts by providing us with quality information on the sustainable/green travel market, serving as an advisor on our front-line sustainability initiatives, providing administrative support on large-scale, collaborative projects to foster sustainable development in the Northwest, and by speaking at opportune engagements to further our industry's knowledge of sustainable travel. STI's staff is knowledgeable and professional and they have a great sense of adaptability to ensure that they're meeting the client where the client is at and moving forward from there.” —Kristin Dahl, Sustainable Tourism Development Manager, Travel Oregon

Destination Stewardship
Destination stewardship is an approach to tourism development in which local communities, governmental agencies, NGOs and the tourism industry are dedicated to taking a multi-stakeholder approach to maintaining the cultural, environmental, economic, and aesthetic integrity of their country, region, state, or town through sustainable policy and management frameworks.
Destination stewardship initiatives have the potential to stimulate the implementation of sustainable tourism development through an interdisciplinary, holistic and integrative approach. Unfortunately, a majority of these initiatives fail to achieve the desired outcomes because they lack the necessary resources, do not have long-term strategies for building capacity, and / or have no access to the growing market of conscientious consumers.
By working with like-minded organizations, taking advantage of existing synergies, and combining the use of existing tools and strategies, Sustainable Travel International (STI) has been implementing result-oriented, market-driven programs that support destination stewardship since 2002. Our multi-stakeholder approach empowers destinations to use tourism to support sustainable development, generate tangible, measurable results, and affect rapid change. Offerings include Sustainable Tourism Implementation and Marketing and Sales Support.
