Examples of Course Offerings Include:

Community Development: Tourism is a viable economic strategy for communities of all sizes wishing to diversify their economies. This course will review strategies for maximizing the benefits and minimizing the negative impacts of tourism, including ways to link larger, more conventional tourism operations to smaller, community based initiatives.
Green Accommodations: This course will provide information on green building design, construction and operation. It will include how to manage energy, waste and water systems while maximizing environmental conservation and benefiting local communities. This course will also describe the benefits of utilizing renewable and alternative energy, and water and energy conservation technologies.
Introduction to Sustainable Tourism: This course will provide an overview of the global movement toward sustainable tourism development including definitions, principles, concepts, methods, techniques and statistical analysis combined with a strong emphasis on practical exercises and case studies both from developing countries and the United States.
Public Policy: This course will review public policy for sustainability in the U.S. including programs available through and policies enforced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and individual State Departments of Environmental Protection. This course will also cover sustainable tourism certification programs and related eco-label criteria.
Sustainable Tourism Auditing and Consulting: This course is designed to train internal sustainability management system auditors and consultants, so that they can demonstrate competence in sustainable tourism certification auditing or consulting and ensure compliance with related criteria. Through hands-on workshops facilitated by leading auditors, this course will provide the experience and understanding necessary to maximize auditing skills including a clear interpretation of auditing requirements, procedures and techniques.
Sustainable Tourism Management: This course will focus on environmental and quality management systems. It will have an emphasis on developing a sustainability policy, environmental management plan and related operational systems that meet sustainable tourism criteria. Case studies and examples will be used to examine creative solutions to minimize negative impacts and maximize the triple bottom line of socio-cultural, environmental, and economic benefits.
Tourism Finance: This course will cover the basics of tourism economics and business financing. In addition, it will provide information on establishing a business and developing a new business including securing funding, understanding cash flow, and creating revenue models, an annual budget, and operational budgets for each product and / or service.
Tourism Marketing - Part I: This course will provide an analysis of the market for sustainable tourism including supply and demand for tourist destinations. It will also include how to find a marketing mix for sustainable tourism with a focus on incorporating the concepts of sustainability into corporate mission, vision, values, market positioning, competitive points of difference, target audience, brand development, and marketing plan. This course will also include evaluation and tracking system design as well as methods for customer relationship management.
Tourism Marketing - Part II: This course will focus on how to use internet technology to create an effective, on-line marketing campaign. Topics will include search engine marketing and optimization, Meta tag and pay-per-click campaign creation, green web portal advertising, link exchange program development, permission-based email marketing, web site content development and usability, and other e-marketing strategies.
