Pricing Structure
Sustainable Travel International (STI) guarantees to offset the amount of carbon dioxide calculated, by using your contribution to support carbon offset projects that are verified and or certified by independent third parties. An average of 80 percent of your contribution is allocated to the carbon offset project portfolios that STI offers, the balance of which covers our overhead. With proceeds from carbon offset sales, we finance climatic protection projects around the world, affording you an opportunity to compensate for 100 percent of the impact you have on climate change.
We offer four options through our carbon calculator. Conservation Carbon offsets that support reforestation projects in Africa and Asia cost US$12.00 per metric ton. Green Tags that support renewable energy projects in North America cost US$31.43 per metric ton or US$20 per Green Tag. And, myclimate™ Certified Emission Reductions and Verified Emission Reductions that support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Africa and Asia cost US$35.00 to offset each metric ton of CO2 equivalent.
We also offer a blended product for US$22.60 per metric ton as well as competitive wholesale pricing on each of our portfolios when you purchase in bulk quantities. For more information, please contact Peter Krahenbuhl.
Carbon Footprint Calculators
Our carbon calculator offset calculations are based on a number of variables. Our carbon calculator for air travel, for example, determines the average quantity of greenhouse gases that are emitted per passenger. For a short distance domestic flight (1430 miles), approximately .64 metric tons are discharged. On long-distance international flight (6900 miles), approximately 2.75 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) are discharged.
Our carbon calculator also takes into consideration greenhouse gasses other than CO2 and uses a radiative forcing index (RFI) factor of 2. In addition, we compute the average cost to compensate for of a metric ton of CO2 in a climatic protection project. These two factors - the emissions and the costs of the emission reduction - result in our final pricing.
Bottom line - our approach is to conservatively estimate how much pollution is reduced, disclose our estimating methodologies, which are available on-line, and to monitor and disclose how our projects perform.
