peterk@sustainabletravel.com
Peter spent most of his childhood on the beaches of Oxnard, California. Favorite memories include surfing, little league and family camping wherever dad found big fly-fishing rivers. After chasing nature and being chased by "development", Peter completed his B.A. in Economics and Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. A global interest, particularly in deforestation and development, led him to pursue a Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University, concentrating in International Affairs and Environmental Policy. During this time his Latin American travels and conservation "projects" began. He developed an Ecotourism company and has focused his efforts on supporting sustainability in the travel industry ever since. In 1997 he hopped aboard The World Outdoors (then Roads Less Traveled) in the office, then as a guide for several years, while completing his first adventure and ecotourism guidebook to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (Hunter Publishing, 2003). Peter supported the development of Sustainable Travel International and the certification concept and now is involved in its management. He lives to save the natural planet and our place in it, while actively enjoying the outdoors, writing and time with his beautiful wife Judith.
